20 of The Most Stunning Long Sleeve Wedding Dresses
New Post – 30 Exquisite & Elegant Long Sleeved Wedding Dresses for 2015
I don’t know about you, but I am loving this trend for long sleeve wedding dresses! After so many years of strapless bodiced bridal gowns, I have long felt it was time for a sleeve revival, and thanks to a certain wedding this year (more on that later) it finally seems to be here.
Perhaps because my Nan wore a long sleeved dress for her wedding, or because of my love for that most iconic of wedding dresses, the Helen Rose design worn by Grace Kelly, I have always associated them with more graceful and refined times.
To me sleeves, especially of lace, evoke romance and give a bride a demure air of elegance, as well as the sleekest of silhouettes! And so today I am indulging in my love for them and sharing some of my absolute favourites….. I just know you are going to love them too.
If there is one designer who can always be relied on to create gowns with more than a little old world charm and romance, it is Claire Pettibone.
One of my absolute favourite designers (you can see more of her gowns on Chic Vintage Brides here, here, here and here…oh and her bohemian inspired Romantique collection is a must see too!) her dresses are created using the most exquisite fabrics (including lashings of lace) and her elegant collections always include a long sleeve dress or two – as well as some of the most beautiful portrait backs you will ever see!
The breathtaking Toile Francais from her Beau Monde collection recalls the Art Nouveau movement with its Edwardian elegance and French flamboyance.
Another such designer is Alice Temperley of Temperley London whose Grace dress reminds me a lot of the stunning Ralph Lauren couture gown worn recently by Lauren Bush, with the high neck giving it an almost Victorian quality…..
Her Jessamine dress is a little more modern and has a somewhat ethereal quality, but with its embellished lace is just as lovely…..
Also with a hint of Victoriana, and a dash of rustic charm, is this dress from Italian designer Luisa Beccaria with its gorgeous hemline…..
Having long been a fan of Elie Saab’s red carpet gowns, I was excited to see his ‘Elie’ collection for Pronovias and it did not disappoint! A collection of dreamy embellished lace dresses, including the lovely Auriga…..
This pretty French corded lace wedding dress by Australian designer Collette Dinnigan (from her Princess Diaries collection for 2012) is more whimsical but equally as romantic…..
Whilst Elizabeth Filmore created more sophististcated silhouettes with lace over a satin sheath dresses……
Jenny Packham included 3 distinct long sleeved bridal designs in her 2011 collection – Antonella a glamorous gown inspired by the sultry 1940s stars of the silver screen; the cute and chic Dido with its feather fringing and slinky Yevonde, so reminiscent of the 1930s.
Whilst Johanna Johnson, who is better known for her glamorous art deco inspired gowns (take a look at her ‘Muse‘, ‘Still Is the Night‘ and ‘Luxor‘ collections to see what I mean, they are utterly breathtaking!), created the more relaxed but still effortlessly elegant Florence for the bohemian bride…..
Or for the more modern bride how about Monique Lhuillier‘s Moment from her 2012 collection? I love the floral lace sleeves and that tulle fishtail skirt…..
Or sleek and sophisticated, this Jesus Peiro long sleeve gown may look simple from the front, however it is anything but from the back…..
Of course I couldn’t write a post on long sleeved wedding dresses without a reference to the most looked at wedding dress this century!
And what a dress it was! I love that deep v lace neckline, that somehow still looks so demure over the beautiful sweetheart bodice.
The full satin skirt, which could have looked heavy on Kate’e tiny frame is lightened by the lace at the bottom, which also adorns the bodice and forms the most elegant long, lace sleeves.
Created by designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, it was both traditional and timelessly chic, absolutely fit for a Princess! It is easy to see why the most anticipated bridal dress of the decade has influenced so many bridal designers and inspired so many beautiful dresses – and brides!……
Kate by Aire Barcelona captures perfectly each and every detail of the Duchess of Cambridge’s celebrated dress.
Whilst ‘Catherine’ by Monique Lhuillier was designed long before the Royal Wedding there are definitely some similarities (and spooky choice of name!)…..
And I love how Catherine Deane took the exquisite neckline of Kate’s dress and paired it with a far simpler skirt…..
Of course, it is not just the British Royal family that sets trends – some 55 years after Grace Kelly’s wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco, her Helen Rose (MGM’s Academy Award winning costume designer) dress is still considered the most iconic wedding dress of all time and continues to inspire brides and designers a. Just take a look at this long sleeved bridal gown by Rosa Clara…..
An almost exact replica of the wedding dress and they even do a Grace Kelly inspired cap veil – beautiful!
And more recently Ersa Atelier‘s 2015 collection included more than one Grace inspired gown!
But I think this Zuhair Murad design for Rosa Clara takes the best of both Kate & Grace’s gowns, and brings them bang up to date with its tulle skirt peeking from beneath the stunning layer of lace…… I love it!
It seems long sleeved wedding dresses are no longer destined to be the reluctant choice of a winter bride, but a happy alternative for a bold bride wishing to evoke eras past and create a contemporary look! I for one hope this trend is here to stay!

The Most Stunning Long Sleeve Wedding Dresses for Every Bride
Make everyone’s eyes sparkle as you walk down the aisle in a bridal gown worth talking about. Fabric that covers your arms is a classic, stylish and superb option for any bride, no matter your aesthetic.
Whether you’re after an ethereal piece or something haute couture, these designs create the perfect silhouette for anyone.
From princess-style puffy sleeves to high necklines, here are some of the most awe-inspiring and breathtaking long sleeve wedding dresses that are perfect for any bride.
Long Sleeve Lace Wedding Dresses
Elegant and flattering, lace wedding dresses are a wonderful option for a bride.
Whether you choose to have an entire gown made with the delicate fabric or you prefer a small feature or a detail, this is a design that will stand the test of time.
It’s a versatile option for the brides who wish to wear long sleeves, and with material so beautiful and classic, you’ll be the most unforgettable bride.
Long Sleeve Satin Wedding Dresses
Sometimes simple designs are the most divine, and a silk wedding dress is no exception. Whether you prefer to keep it modest with a boat neckline or you’d dare to show some skin, these satin gowns will keep the guests talking for months. For a non-traditional twist, wear a silky two-piece with a flowing skirt underneath. This is your day, why not show off a bit?
Long Sleeve Mermaid Wedding Dresses
Elongate and flatter your beautiful figure with a mermaid wedding dress. This lengthening gown not only gives the appearance of long legs but it also alludes to an hourglass shape, as it nips in the waist.
For those who love to put a twist on tradition, choose lacey sleeves for a delicate finish or silk for a nod to haute couture. If you’re feeling a little seductive, opt for something with a slit in the front or side, showing off your pins and allowing extra movement.
Watch your partner gape in awe as you walk down the aisle.
Long Sleeve Vintage Wedding Dresses
Give a nod to the past by wearing a vintage wedding dress. Whether it’s from the 1980s or the 1880s, these pieces are the perfect alternative to a modern gown.
If you’d to make a homage to the era, you can alter it to fit the current times by leaving the original sleeves and neckline but changing the silhouette.
As antique frocks go, be sure that you keep them in excellent condition so that you can look your absolute best on your big day.
Long Sleeve Backless Wedding Dresses
It’s your big day, why not show a little skin? Backless wedding dresses with long sleeves are a fantastic option.
Small details in the rear can transform the gown’s entire design and can make a huge impact when walking down the aisle – wear your hair in a dazzling updo for a maximum impression.
Opt for a subtle boatneck or high neckline to compliment the daring backless feature, or be bold in a plunging neckline for ultimate seduction.
Long Sleeve Bohemian Wedding Dresses
Create an effortless and stylish entrance in one of these beautiful bohemian wedding dresses. Whimsical and charming, these pieces are as stunning as they are comfortable.
Opt for flowing lace sleeves to create a fairy-esque aesthetic, or wear something loose-fitting with tighter cuffs for a delicate and antique approach to the traditional gown. To complete the look wear your hair down, sprinkled with flowers and minimal jewelry.
Your guests will marvel at your ethereal presence when you walk down the aisle.
Long Sleeve Beach Wedding Dresses
Say “I do” against the crashing waves and gorgeous sunset in one of these divine beach wedding dresses.
For an event on the sand, it’s best to avoid wearing an A-line silhouette as it will become dirty and wet in the process.
For this surrounding opt for a gown with a long-line design that barely touches the ground, paired with bare feet for a mermaid-esque aesthetic. Long sleeves are a superb opportunity to bring attention to your back.
Long Sleeve Short Wedding Dresses
Add a bit of zest to the traditional wedding dress by shortening the length a little.
Whether Audrey’s gown inspired you in the 1957 classic Funny Face or you simply wish to show off your pins, this cute silhouette is an excellent alternative to the standard design.
For a retro feel opt for a tea-length piece or shake up the dancefloor in a mini. Swap out your heels for delicate ballet flats and watch as the compliments fly in!
Long Sleeve Simple Casual Long Sleeve Wedding Dresses
Why should you feel uncomfortable on one of the happiest days of your life? If you’re getting hitched somewhere low key, why not knock everyone’s socks off in a gown that’s not only simple and casual but also breathtaking.
Long line wrap dresses look amazing when paired with accessories such as a veil or a floral headpiece. Up the ante with a long-sleeved cold-shoulder frock and a messy updo, blending an understated silhouette with a bridal twist.
Long Sleeve Off the Shoulder Wedding Dresses
Who says long sleeved dresses have to be boring? Off-the-shoulder gowns add an instant ethereal aesthetic to any setting, as well as showcasing your décolletage.
Streamline your figure with silk or satin fabrics or feel a princess for a day in an A-line silhouette, with lace sleeves to complete the look. Wear your hair up to exhibit your collarbones or leave it down for a whimsical finish.
No matter how you style this, it’s an eternally graceful option for any bride.
Long Sleeve A-Line Wedding Dresses
Have you ever wanted to be a princess for a day? Well, an A-line wedding dress is an answer to your wishes. With a nipped-in waist and a flowy bottom half, these gowns are as classic as they are dazzling.
Simple fabrics allow the bride to get creative with accessories or the bouquet, whereas sparkling and lace detailing emulates a royal aesthetic.
Bring out your inner Diana with over-the-top puffy sleeves or keep it casual with tight-fitting cuffs – either way, you’re going to feel the belle of the ball in an instant!
Long Sleeve V-Neck Wedding Dresses
Make a real entrance in a V-neck wedding dress. Daring and worthy of attention, this neckline is a flawless finishing touch to any silhouette.
Dare to bare some skin with a plunging cutout, complimented with long, tight-fitting sleeves. This combination of sweet and sultry is sure to turn every head.
Wear your hair in a low chignon and veil to showcase your décolletage. If you’re after a timeless design, this is the perfect piece for you!
Long Sleeve High Neck Wedding Dresses
Modest and daring all at once, these gowns are as dazzling as they are simple. Mock turtlenecks are an elegant choice, and when combined with long sleeves, emulate a timeless feel.
If you’d prefer something with less coverage, take a leaf Meghan Markle’s book with a boat neckline.
Lace, silk and sparkling fabrics all look brilliant with this silhouette, so you’ll easily be able to find the piece that speaks to you!
Long Sleeve Plus Size Long Sleeve Wedding Dresses
Flatter your figure and impress your guests in one of these stunning plus size wedding dresses. Accentuate your hips with an hourglass silhouette, which is made easy in a mermaid gown or an A-line.
For those with a fuller bust, showcase your décolletage in a plunging neckline and enhance a traditional aesthetic with long, beautiful sleeves. Lengthen your neck by wearing your hair in a low bun or sweep your locks to a single side.
If you’d prefer to wear something tight, opt for a long train to create a sleek profile. Watch as your partner’s jaw drops in awe as you make your way down the aisle.
Long Sleeve Black Long Sleeve Wedding Dress
In 1840 Queen Victoria made wearing white the bridal style of choice, but why follow this short-standing tradition when you were made to stand out? Black wedding dresses are the ultimate rule-breaker and a flawless scene-stealer. Unleash your inner Morticia with a dark mermaid silhouette or feel a gothic princess in a lace A-line gown. If you’re hoping to sway from tradition a little bit more, why not wear something ombre?
